Workshop: The Future of Risk-Based Test Chartering

The purpose of this session, “The Future Of Risk-Based Test Chartering,” is to get testers thinking more holistically about their testing process. Writing test cases based on a quick team briefing and glancing over acceptance criteria is a thing of the past. We move the skill-craft of testing forward, not by establishing routines and following pass/fail scripts, but rather by being much more intentional about our risk exploration process through the use of modeling to form our testing charters. Generation of these charters, based on a risk-analysis approach to the product, allows testers to tell a much more compelling story to stakeholders about the work they are doing. In this session, testers will learn how to become much more confident in their approach to testing, rather than simply hoping the right testing was completed.

Workshop Takeaways:

  • Expose common myths around the value and perceived necessity of certain testing rituals.
  • Compare/contrast traditional artifacts with a risk-based modeling approach.
  • Hands-on exercise on how to move from risk conception to value-add test chartering.
  • Establish a strong vocabulary for the purpose of speaking confidently to stakeholders about the three-part testing story.
